If you’re into vintage fashion, Berlin is definitely the right place to take a short break and shopping trip! Berlin has everything. If you take a short walk from your apartment in Berlin or hotels Berlin, down some of the most popular shopping streets; Kurfürstendamm, Breitscheidplatz Budapestststrasse and Tauenzienstrasse, you are bound to come across some of the most sophisticated names and makes, but walk a little further and you will come to Oderbergerstrasse, famous in Berlin for its array of vintage shops…
Furthermore, Mauerpark (Mauerstrasse 63-64) is the best flea market in Berlin. A throw back to the former days of the GDR, dig deep into this market, and you will find all sorts of goodies, including lamps, hats, uniforms and crazy ornaments. As well as this, the market is jam packed full of vintage furniture and pretty clothes. Open from 9:00 until 18:00 on Sundays, a trip round this market is the perfect way to round off your weekend.
If you are more of a shoe lovin’ gal, make sure you seek and find “Calypso”, a shoe shop offering an abundance of vintage shoes for every taste. Not only does it sell the latest, sexiest footwear around, it also has a brilliant selection of shoes from the 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s. Slap bang in the heart of the vintage quarter, this shop can be found at number 61 Oderbergerstrasse in Berlin.
Another beauty is O.F.T situated on Chausseestrasse 131b and open Mon-Fri, 13:00-20:00; Sat, 13:00-18:00. Their website is ohnefragetoll.de. This shop whose initials stand for “Without Question Good”, this shop is a little treasure trove of items. In this labyrinth of goodies you will find, piled up on stairs and chaotically arranged in boxes; vintage clothing, jewelry, furniture, shoes and lamps. Prices are not too bad, but it isn’t dirt cheap either.
Possibly my favourite shop in Berlin, Immaculate Heart is truly vintage. Situated on Rosa-Luxemburg Strasse 28, the goods here are hand selected by the owner, and so you know the products are going to be super vintage and super cool. The shoes in particular are really sexy as is the jewelry. With regards to the jewelry, many pieces are vintage items that have been reworked with a cleaner, more wearable update which makes it perfect to wear on a night out. Immaculate Heart is reasonably new and has just started up a new myspace page which you should check out.
Last but not least, remember to book your accommodation Berlin in time and check out a great shop for vintage fashion; Garage in the centre of Berlin. Clothes here are sold unusually by how much they weigh rather than the cost of the material taken to make the item and on Wednesdays between 11am and 1pm, the clothes are reduced to €9.99 per kilo! Visit this shop at Ahornstrasse 2, 10787 Berlin.
