In the present economic climate large numbers of folk are currently taking a look at the way they run their affairs and trying to cut expenditure. One way many are saving is to take a vacation in England the reason being that the English pound has lost ground against other currencies and this means that vacations abroad for the British are expensive than in years past and dramatically less expensive for tourists coming from Europe and the US. In the following article I introduce you to the seaside town of Southport, Merseyside, England.
Southport is a delectable town situated on the English North West coast. Visitor attractions include, Southport Pier, Lord Street, Wayfarers’ Arcade, Churchtown village, the Botanic Gardens at Churchtown, Botanic Gardens Museum, Hesketh Park and more. Lord Street is Southport’s main shopping street. All the way along one side of the street the pavement are covered by superb Victorian iron work and a row of lush green trees closer to the road. Over on the opposite side of Lord Street you will find gorgeous flower beds and small gardens with pools and fountains plus a Victorian bandstand. Right at the very centre of Lord Street is probably the most amazing war monuments in the land with an obelisk in the middle and 2 other monuments on each side which feature huge columns. Lord Street has some of Southport’s finest architecture and it is where you will discover another Victorian masterpiece, Wayfarers’ Arcade.
At the very end Lord Street you will discover the wonderful Hesketh Park. Hesketh Park is named after the Hesketh family and, in a similar fashion to Lord Street, it is heavily wooded. There are beautiful hidden areas to be discovered, a play park, glass house, bandstand and more to be found within Hesketh Park but the lake is the most prominent feature.
Churchtown: You will find another wonderful park, the Botanic Gardens in Chruchtown which features a a long stretch of still water which appears like a river which features boats for hire, an ornate bridge, ducks, swans and other wildlife and if you enjoy birds and animals the Botanic Gardens also has a tiny zoo, just opposite the cafe and museum. Churchtown village is a gorgeous number of ancient houses, cottages and fishermen’s cottages mostly white and some of them feature a roof of thatch. It is crucial that you take a walk around and that you keep your eyes peeled as there are one or two hidden gems well worth the work to discover.
