Current news out of the Canary Islands is definitely centralized more or less on the volcanic activity occurring not far from the coast of El Hierro, causing a minor local evacuation. But yet on the opposite side of the Canaries chain, Lanzarote which happens to be equally as volcanic, continues to be inactive and peaceful.

This simply wasn’t the scenario just just a few centuries back though, as Lanzarote was actually subjected to the longest uninterrupted eruption in recorded history, although its neighbors continued as if nothing out of the ordinary was occurring. The good news is this era of seismic disruption has since been taken advantage of by the ever growing tourist sector, with one particular inactive volcano even being used to actually power a restaurants barbecue.

And in addition the islands most visited attraction, namely the volcano park at Timanfaya, demonstrates exactly how severe volcanic eruptions tend to be. Regardless of where holiday-makers and visitors look there’ re able to see huge craters, solidified streams of lava, walls that appear to be like melted wax and additionally huge lava bombs that were tossed through the air.

Additionally outside the perimeter of Timanfaya is a landscape every bit as interesting, in which the La Geria wine region employs older volcanic fields in comparison to the craters at Timanfaya. It goes without saying that the best way to explore this unique location will be by car, mainly because Lanzarote car hire won’t break the bank, and you’ll be able to take full advantage of the quiet rural roads with their lovely scenery.

The fact is that whilst Lanzarote is an excellent sunshine destination, lounging around at the edge of the pool or on one of Lanzarote’s excellent beaches is not the only activity tourists want to do during their stay. Many people may decide to visit the just as beautiful but thoroughly distinct northern part of this tropical isle to boot.

What normally turns out to be the reality is often that two or three relaxing days utilizing the comforts at any one of the Lanzarote hotels is more than enough for a number of vacationers, who afterwards would like a degree of diversification, commonly outside the vacation resort boundaries. And these individuals Lanzarote has many exceptional cultural attractions and places of interest to view.

Each of these was created by the local artist named César Manrique, whose resourceful reputation won him plaudits in Spain and on Lanzarote. Yet inspite of the popularity of the island with English visitors as well as the short time of Lanzarote flights, this artist astonishingly remains relatively anonymous in great Britain.

Thankfully that paucity of knowledge is very quickly countered because travelers to Lanzarote usually overwhelmed by his design style and are typically very eager to check out other illustrations of his work. Which can without difficulty completely transform the holiday into a mini cultural tour of Manrique´s works combined with his architectural developments rather than simply a week or two lounging around on a sun bed.

As the cold temperatures settles in and the news continues to be disturbing, the thought of a week under the sun may seem more tempting than ever before. But considering the stress on our pockets, far flung destinations may well get left behind to locations that are nearer to home in the search for winter sunlight.

For residents of the UK, the Canary Islands are probably the nearest places where all year long sunshine can be found. Around the archipelago of seven islands, Lanzarote is the most easterly and is also known as the island having the driest climate.

The desert climate of the island is instantaneously visible the moment visitors arrive, since the most abundant tree is the Canarian palm. Moreover, the island’s volcanic panorama is bare almost all the year, because it is far too dried up to sustain much in the way of flowers.

Having said that, visitors expecting the island to appear reasonably dry will probably be in for a agreeable surprise, as the primary tourist vacation resorts are brimming with tropical flowers. So much so, that many holiday villas in Lanzarote have an incredible assortment of palms, flowering trees and shrubs in their gardens.

Away from the resorts, the many villages and towns dotted around the island are also attractively planted, as horticulture is a popular past-time in more rural areas. This relationship with nature and agriculture forms the basis of several of the leading attractions on the island, developed by César Manrique, artist and architect.

Manrique´s influence also extends into tourist towns like Puerto del Carmen, which have been saved from too much development and urban sprawl. In place of high rise blocks, the buildings are all two or three storeys, even the hotels and complexes which are also surrounded by gardens.

Many visitors to Lanzarote choose to stay in self-catering accommodation, often because there is so much to see and do, so their apartments in Lanzarote form an ideal base for getting out and about. And with such an array of great beaches, unique tourist attractions and beautiful landscapes, there is plenty to lure tourists away from the sun beds.

Other visitors come to the island to participate in sports and outdoor activities, of which cycling and running are amongst the most frequently chosen. Which is not to say that visitors who want to be more sedate don´t equally enjoy the chance to live outdoors.

These factors all contribute to the relaxed vibe that Lanzarote has and accounts for the reason why many tourists come back again and again. Because whilst Lanzarote may be small, it is packed with new things to discover and favorite places to visit a second time.

The choice of holidays offered to the independent tourist currently has never been so broad, and the simplicity of making your reservations on-line has a tendency to help to make life a lot less difficult particularly if you would like a sun kissed vacation come wintertime or summer season in the Canary Islandsa stone’s throw from Africas western coastline.

The Canaries are actually an African staging post of the Spanish empire and were first subdued back in the 15th century, before developing to become a important strategic cog in Spain’s continuing expansion into the Americas.

Today the islands that make up the Canarian archipelago fortuitously welcomes a much friendlier type of visitor, in the form of countless vacationers from all around Europe and other worldwide countries. These are generally captivated because of the all year long hot sunshine and high standards holiday accommodation to select from, with numerous Lanzarote holiday villas, condominiums and luxury hotels to select from, especially in and round the three principal resorts of Playa Blanca, Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise.

The resort of Playa Blanca is the top choice for beach lovers simply because this fast growing town in the southern area of the island is widely considered to boast the most impressive expanses of sand on the island, for example , Playa Flamingo and Playa Dorada. It is additionally in fairly close proximity to the shoreline and coves of Papagayo (which translates to mean parrot in Spanish tongue), which have all been left altogether unchanged by the ravages of tourism.

Because of this interest in holiday accommodation such as Playa Blanca villas continues to be in constant demand over summer and winter.

Plenty of Lanzarote´s most desirable beaches though are actually are tucked away from the principal resorts. Famara for example on Lanzarote’s north west coast is quite often argued to be the most spectacular, thanks to the fact that it is actually flanked by the awe-inspiring Famara massif range of cliffs, which stand about Four hundred meters high at one end of the 8km long beach. This creates a dramatic backdrop to this really beautiful expanse of sand.

One more excellent beach can be found on the south westerly seacoast at Arrieta, a small fishing community which happens to be quite popular with the local community yet somehow is basically undiscovered by holiday makers on account of its setting on the north of the island beyond the primary family vacation areas.

All in all there are actually close to 100 fantastic beaches on the island, therefore it truly does pay make sure you get out and have a very good thorough look at this amazing island. As it truly is an excellent spot for beach lovers.

There are many different places to stay if you are thinking about booking a break on Lanzarote. This tiny island in the Canaries is just four hours away from UK airports and boasts loads of accommodation options, from charming rural properties through to large and luxurious 5 star hotels in the main resorts.

This unique island first started to attract tourists during the 70’s and 80’s, at the time when package holidays abroad first became widely available to consumers in the UK. Visitor numbers then reached a peak in 1993, when 2 million tourists touched down at Arrecife airport. And although the number of foreign arrivals has tailed off a little since then the island still attracts plenty of visitors, despite increased competition from newer destinations such as Turkey and Egypt.

Despite the increased competition though, the island still remains a popular holiday choice though, not least as it offers such a diversity of different accommodation options, which means Lanzarote is able to cater to all budgets and tastes.

The largest growth area during the last ten years has been in self-catering offices, with over 10,000 Lanzarote Villas on the island. With the bulk of these concentrated in the three main resorts. And if you are just too relaxed to wander to the beach most tend to come with private pools as standard. Expect to pay upwards of €450 for your week in the sun, depending of course on the time of year and location of your villa.

Purto del Carmen holiday villas tend to be more expensive than similar properties in other resorts, reflecting larger plot sizes and superior build quality. So tourists planning a stay in Lanzarote’s main resort can expect to pay from €600 for their week in the sun, depending of course on the time of the year and the size of their party.

Aside from an extensive range of holiday villas in Lanzarote there are over 200 hotels on the island. With six 5 star establishments catering to the luxury market and a host of good quality 4 star hotels available, especially in Playa Blanca in the south of the island.

This is the spot to head for if you are booking a hotel break on a budget as there is a much wider range of choice here than in Costa Teguise or Puerto del Carmen and hence the room rates are usually cheaper. The Timanfaya Palace and Princesa Yaiza are amongst the most popular hotels in the resort.

Lanzarote, the 4th largest of the Canary Islands possesses a popularity as a leading sunshine holiday destination. This is well deserved, with there being approximately 100 excellent beaches to explore here and also the climate is fantastic even during winter. However this climate likewise helps to draw in a great deal of sports tourists and triathletes from across Europe, particularly every time the physically grueling Iron Man competition kicks off.

The Iron Man sporting event is staged on Lanzarote each year in late May and catches the interest of roughly one thousand challengers. Many of these have the ability finish the course which involves a 3km swim, 180 km back-breaking bike ride and a full and very arduous marathon inside of 12 hours or less, with the race leaders completing the course in, in about 8 hours plus. The race is so popular that a great many holiday-makers plan their vacations and end up booking Lanzarote villas as soon as possible to ensure they won’t miss out on this unique event.

The climatic conditions are of course so challenging that only the most experienced hot weather athletes would consider entering the competition not having some form of acclimatization, and quite a few prefer the freedom that you won’t get in a hotel so a majority will usually stay in Playa Blanca villas with pools or Puerto del Carmen villas while they are here.

Should you fancy doing more than merely getting a tan then Lanzarote offers lots of things to do. You could possibly explore the islands many natural attractions – for instance the regal Timanfaya Volcano Park additionally, the wonderful Valley of one thousand Palms. Experience the unique projects of the local artist César Manrique, for instance the Jameos del Agua also, the Mirador del Rio. Or amble through picture postcard rural towns and picturesque villages for example Haria and Yaiza.

Eating out in most of the islands resorts can be a delicious adventure as the dishes of Lanzarote blend at the same time the classic recipes of Spain, along with enticing African spices. Authentic rustic cuisine can be experienced in most towns or in one of many charming villages, whilst on the other hand there are many exceptional seafood bistros are awaiting your custom in the holiday resorts and in and around the coast. You might want to try the local goats cheese combined with a jug of stimulating Lanzarotean Sangria, it’s said to be a good deal stronger in comparison to the Spanish version.

The blend of high rise free vacation resorts, top class beaches and as well extraordinary natural landscapes make Lanzarote a unique and memorable holiday destination, so ensure that it’s on your shortlist.

Whilst the island of Lanzarote may get connected with package holidays, these days it is also becoming known as an ideal place to go for more independent travellers. Because of several low cost airlines adding the Canarian island for their schedules, now it is easier for holidaymakers to create their particular travel itinerary.

In addition the profusion of privately owned Lanzarote Villas available to book over the web it is easy to see how the vacation market on the island has actually been revolutionized in recent times. For those who opt to book a rural villa there’s no need to even visit any of the island´s three holiday resorts.

Holidaymakers who take this route are often pleasantly surprised mainly because of the rugged natural splendor of rural Lanzarote, whose volcanic past makes up about much of its unique landscapes. These have been completely maintained and guarded from further development to safeguard the environment, and to preserve the originality of the island.

Because of this, the more discerning visitor is able to appreciate natural attractiveness of Lanzarote and appreciate the harmonious places of interest which have been created alongside. With the latter, most were designed by the island born artist Manrique, whose legacy continues to influence the way Lanzarote looks.

Lanzarote has not been starved of development since Manrique´s death, but most development has been restricted to selected areas for example Playa Blanca, the resort in the south. Here, what was once a variety of fishermen´s houses continues to be turned into the second largest resort in Lanzarote.

Because of this, there exists a wide range of self catering Playa Blanca villas to select from, and with many villas being newly constructed in the previous ten years, they have an inclination towards a clean modern design and style with light and airy interiors.|, and as a consequence of their recent construction, most are particularly modern, airy and comfy and well designed to vacation usage. Along with several excellent four and five star hotels..

Inside the original resort of Puerto del Carmen there’s been less property built during the last decade. And also the main tourist rise in this area has been apartment complexes and aparthotels.

Because of this self catering Puerto del Carmen villas tend to be perfectly located at the more exclusive residential regions of town and are more unlikely to end up being architecturally identical to neighbouring properties. On the other hand, they offer very suitable holiday accommodation to holidaymakers, specially those who enjoy usage of an exclusive pool.

For completely distinctive holiday homes to rent, it´s better to look at the range of rural locations available, where villas made out of the mountains or old water deposits are available.

The recent spate of volcanic activity on the Canarian island of El Hierro may well encourage some volcanologists to visit this small outcrop. But for those who prefer less volatile conditions for their holidays, the island of Lanzarote, with over 300 dormant craters, may sound more appealing.

The latter´s pedigree as a volcanic island is well established, although there has been no noticeable seismic activity on Lanzarote for at least the last hundred years. It is however, the location of the longest recorded eruptions and the subsequent volcanic debris has been turned into its best tourist attraction. Lanzarote’s Timanfaya National Park is composed of some of the most colourful craters and lava and forms an excellent panorama to view from the tour buses that run through the park. Visitors will also be amazed by the geothermal barbecue, which cooks all the food served at the El Diablo restaurant in the park.

Whilst most visitors to the area will make a bee – line for the Timanfaya National Park, there’s also a selection of other volcanic places of interest on the island, which include a subterranean property created from hollow lava bubbles, and also green caves where you can listen to concerts occasionally in a near acoustically perfect volcanic chambers.

For those who want to explore the entire volcanic region, much the best method is to arrange car hire to get around Timanfaya, the La Geria wine region and the natural volcano park. With each area demonstrating a different time period in the volcanic activity of the island.

The fact that vines and other crops can still be cultivated on the land is a testament to the resourcefulness of local farmers. In fact, several wines produced in the La Geria region have won prizes for the bodegas that cultivate them.

for guests who prefer not to drive and are staying in one of the many hotels in Lanzarote, a professionally organised day trip could be the answer. As it is simply a case of being picked up and dropped off from the hotel reception, with little to do except relax and enjoy the views.

The attraction of Lanzarote is un-avoidable and many tourists visit again and again to either bask on the beautiful beaches, experience the local culture at during any of the islands carnivals throughout the year, or just to wind down in the year round welcoming climate.
