Over the existence of the league there has been many critics of the soccer league from many coaches and journalists around the world. We are now going to take a glimpse at the league as a business system and think about different Franchises that create the foundation of the league system. No matter what your view is of the league it has been a reasonably profitable in modern times and is progressing to expand each campaign with different Franchises waiting to signup to the league. The league was formed in 1993 as the foundation for the following years world cup finals, this was a promise that was given to FIFA if the country was awarded the world cup finals. It was thought that soccer would increase progressively as it has massive battles with more established sports in the US sporting arena, but this league would give it a stiff base of where to begin. Every team begun as Franchises For Sale prospects around the states of America, large quantities of investment was given by local groups and businesses to buy the Franchises underway and to create a Home Based Franchise for each major city.
The 1st match kicked off in 1996 and the league consisted of a small ten Home Based Franchise that were bought by local groups and businesses as Franchise For Sale prospects. The crowd for the matches were a higher than average and the common outlook was respectable. But, at the beginning, the league never truly exploded and the player quality was comparatively bad, this coupled with the teams not being competitive with each other gradually put pay to turnout attendances. A Home Based Franchise would find it difficult with the long distances travelled and outlay that the MLS had at the start, so the Franchises suffered over this time.
After the 2002 world cup finals where the USA team go to the quarter-final phase there was a a boost in the reputation of soccer. There was a new leader in control of building the league into a key market for the Franchises and under this system the league begun to attract top players from around the soccer world.
The player quality on the field still remains lower than the average found at a top European club but the sum of top players that are now in the league, whether it be for the money or career choices, is increasing. Franchise For Sale in Toronto is now available and this increased the MLS appeal to Canada, where soccer is more recognised.
We will now glimpse at the Philadelphia Union team and how it has progressed since it’s creation to become a recognised Franchises in the MLS.
Major League Soccer’s latest expansion club are the Philadelphia Union, the 16th club to join the US and Canada-based league. Union are the first Pennsylvania-based club to join the league and the first major professional soccer club in Philadelphia since the 1980 fall of the Philadelphia Fury of the NASL.
The Philadelphia Union name pays esteem to the central meaning of the city of Philadelphia in the beginning of the United States, the “union” of 13 previously British colonies. Both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, the Nations founding papers, were composed in Philadelphia.
Philadelphia Union’s primary colours of navy blue and gold pay praise to the similarly-coloured Continental Army of the United States. The light blue is a sign both to the city of Philadelphia, whose prime city colours are light blue and gold, and to the Sons of Ben, a Union supporters company created before the club began and who had adopted light blue and gold colours.
