Hoping that you’re with me on this, it is well accepted that for any training session to be dynamic, it’s pertinent that the basics have been taught adequately to the players. Be it simple stretching, warm up, or strengthening exercises, it is important to ensure that they are done correctly.
During soccer exercises, including the following instructions can be of great help in deriving maximum benefit out of the practice sessions.
Stretching exercises: Make certain to use a soccer ball in all or in a majority of stretching exercises. This is essential so that kids play with the ball and learn to use it for even the most basic drills. This has the effect of teaching the kids to manage the ball’s movements as they get familiar with it.
As a coach, you don’t want your kids to feel anxious every time they have to deal with the ball. As a result, it’s imperative that kids feel relaxed when using the ball. You can design different other exercises that also bring a feeling of enjoyment and fun besides stretching. Be creative to develop and implement newest techniques and don’t feel frightened.
Strengthening exercises: For all intents and purposes, soccer is not a game of the strongest. It’s common in soccer to misinterpret the term strength. By strength we mean staying power, agility, speed, and stamina. Soccer isn’t essentially a rough game even if it calls for some kind of physical contact with the players.
Physical strength isn’t all that important in soccer although it can sometimes help to hold off challenges and also prevent injuries. So make sure that there is a proper blend of soccer drills and exercises that result in building strength as discussed above.
Here, I’d like to share a concern about having the kids perform these exercises previous to skill drills. Worn-out bodies fail to identify with and learn skills enthusiastically.
Warm-up activities: In soccer training, juggling and stretching activities are the only activities to begin with, than can warm up your players well. There is no need of anything else. Once more, utilize soccer balls to perform these exercises.
Keep away from relay races for 2 reasons; players can experience torn ligaments or get cramps due to sprinting or scrambling of stiff muscles. Subsequently, the kids may lose their recently acquired skills because of too much running that they may be made to do.
As an alternative, you can take them for a run around the field. Not only is this a team activity, but also augments the fun part of the game. Give the players targets to shoot at or even dribble the ball in-between. Then in few minutes, players will be prepared to take on a tough session because they are all warmed up and trained.
