Blackpool is a seaside resort residing on the North West coast of England, which is amazingly popular with tourists arriving from the close by towns which include Liverpool, Warrington, Manchester and more. The resort is also fantastically popular with folk from Scotland who appear in large numbers in a similar way to the groups of factory workers of the past on their factory day out. At times it would appear that the resort is smothered in guest house accommodation and entertainments and even though there is a great deal of bed and breakfasts in Blackpool it is still best to book in advance to be safe. Hotels varies from the cheerful and cheap to classy 5 star. Many are situated on the sea front but, if you would prefer stay something far less lively you will find a few further inland.
Tourists first started to visit Blackpool in the eighteenth century who had traveled to enjoy the new practice of sea bathing. With the arrival of the railways, in 1846, Blackpool experienced more folk arriving to, as it was called, “take the cure”. These days folk can travel to Blackpool by road, railway or air arriving there much faster than the early Victorian mill workers who would take as long as 2 days from as nearby as Manchester.
The Famous Blackpool Pleasure Beach
The primary attraction in the town of Blackpool, in Lancashire, which attracts around seven million visitors a year, is Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Blackpool’s Pleasure Beach is a very large funfair with mind blowing big rides, such as Grand National, Valhalla, the Pepsi Max Big One, Ice Blast, Zipper Dipper and Wild Mouse, as well as many more children’s rides, roller coasters, sideshows, thrill rides, sidestalls and games. The most recent ride is Infusion, the first ride in the world to feature a suspended looping type of coaster completely over water.
Please remember: If you are traveling as a family or group you can make savings by purchasing an unlimited ride ticket especially if you will going on every ride because the individual cost of each ride soon adds up.
Getting There And B&B
Blackpool is, as said earlier, very easy to get to these days as you are able to travel to the resort by road, railway or air. Arriving by train you will, probably, arrive at the main rail station in Blackpool, which is called Blackpool North on Talbot Road. A few minutes away, a little bit further down Talbot Road is situated Blackpool National Express Coach Station, Blackpool’s main bus station. The other Blackpool train station, Blackpool South, is at Waterloo Road, South Promenade, closer to the Pleasure Beach. Blackpool International Airport is situated approximately 2 miles south of the centre of town and was previously called, Blackpool Squires Gate Airport, one of Britain’s oldest airports.
Blackpool bed & breakfast accommodation is often available cheaply. Rooms are far less expensive out of season but not such a bargain on Saturdays and Sundays. Blackpool hotel hotels are at their most expensive while the Blackpool Illuminations are on, which is really the town#s peak season.
Please remember: Some guest houses and hotels can be extremely busy and rather noisy especially those situated close to Central and North Pier. If you require somewhere less noisy try booking a place beyond the North Pier.
