The Beulah Rucker Museum and Education Center is a tribute to a woman who, in the early 1900′s took it upon herself to begin a school for the African-American children in the northern area of Georgia. At the time there were few schools that the kids could go to and she felt a true calling to educate these children. If you are traveling through Georgia on your Georgia vacation you will enjoy the visit to the museum and all that it stands for even today.
The school continued to function from around 1909 until the 1950′s. When the upper grades were consolidated with the city of Gainesville schools the elementary school continued to provide education for the younger students. It even had night classes for the benefit of African-Americans returning from WWII.
She is recognized as an important part of local education in the area and the city of Gainesville and the surrounding area strive to maintain the honor by keeping the museum operational and the educational center a place where research on education can be done.
